Hospital Report 2007: Mental Health is the third in a series of hospital reports that uses a balanced scorecard approach that focuses on adult mental health care services in Ontario. Twenty-three (23) indicators and 14 contextual variables were chosen by health care providers, managers, and researchers to examine the four important areas of mental health care that form a balanced scorecard - system integration and change, clinical utilization and outcomes, patient perception of care, and financial performance and condition. Provincial, Local Integration Network (LHIN), and peer group level analyses are included in this report. The balanced scorecard approach describes a comprehensive performance measurement system for mental health specialty and hospital-based programs in Ontario and identifies successes within the hospital system as well as important areas for quality improvement. High performing hospitals within the clinical utilization and outcomes and financial performance and condition quadrants only are listed in the report by hospital type. A technical manual describing the methodological approaches used to develop this report is available. |

53 Schedule 1 hospitals including acute care hospitals with designated mental health beds, teaching and specialty hospitals participated in at least one quadrant. Aggregate results are based on different number of hospitals depending on the quadrant (from 22 hospitals in the perception of care quadrant to 56 hospitals in the financial performance and condition quadrant). These facilities provided almost 86% of mental health and addictions care in 2005/06. |
